Celebrating Over a Year of 'Deutsch im Biergarten'

It's been more than a year since we kicked off our very first monthly student event, 'Deutsch im Biergarten'. The idea was simple: bring our students together outside the classroom and give them a chance to practise their German in a fun, relaxed environment. Looking back, we are truly amazed by how much this tradition has grown and the positive impact it has had on our community.

Perfect Location. A Biergarten in Brisbane!

Our monthly meetings are held at the German Biergarten Brisbane in Wooloowin. It's the perfect match! It’s like having a slice of Germany right here in Brisbane. With a relaxed, authentic atmosphere and traditional German food and beer, the Biergarten is the ideal setting for our students to get the opportunity to practise German naturally with each other and even with the German-speaking waitstaff and the owner, Carsten.

A Surprising Amount of German

One of the best surprises has been how much German is spoken at these gatherings. In the relaxed setting, maybe with the help of a beer or two, students experiment with the language more freely and discover how much they can already say.

Stronger Connections & Teachers in the Mix

Hanging out with classmates outside of class helps form friendships that last into lessons. Beginners also get to meet advanced learners, which can be super motivating and provide practical tips for their own learning journey. Every event has at least two of our teachers attending, making it a great way to build a sense of community. Plus, it gives students more opportunities to ask questions or get advice.

Growing in Popularity

Our recent event in August welcomed over 40 students, friends, and family – our biggest group yet! Every month, more people join in, and the atmosphere gets livelier. The response from our students has been overwhelmingly positive! Our students love the atmosphere, the practice opportunities and the community spirit.

Looking Ahead

These gatherings have made our students more engaged, confident and connected. We’re excited to see this tradition continue to grow – and we thank everyone who has made it such a success!
